Hawthorn – Crataegus monogyna (Bare Root)

An outstanding deciduous native plant which was traditionally used to enclose fields and is now being planted in large numbers as part of the government REPS (rural environmental protection scheme). A thorny green hedge which is covered in white blossom in May and produces huge crops of red fruit called haws. Usually planted in a double staggered row at a density of 5/7 plants to the metre, it will tolerate hard cutting. It will grow almost everywhere and forms an excellent wildlife corridor.
